Time To Go

by Duncan Jones

The wind with words of wisdom
Whispered softly, “… time to go …
For I have flown across the night
And I know what you don’t know …”

But indifferently they lingered
And they kept their heads down low
They enjoyed the breeze and evening
While the wind said “… time to go …”

So the wind with words of wisdom
Whispered softly, “ … mustn’t stay …
For I have seen the long grass dance
This is not a place to play …”

But once again they paid no mind
Ruthless, hot had been the day
And they now enjoyed the moonlight
While the wind said, “… mustn’t stay …”

So the wind with words of wisdom
Whispered softly, “… let us run …
For the fields are fast and light tonight
The chance is not yet done …”

But the air was cool, the stars were bright
A gift that they’d earned, they’d won!
And danger seemed so far away
When the wind said, “… let us run …”

So the wind with words of wisdom
Whispered softly, then was gone
And eventually heads lifted
“Perhaps we should be moving on …”

Then came the dangerous from the grass
And soon after came the dawn
And now when the wind is whispering
No one waits until it’s gone
