And Soon The Two Would Meet

by Duncan Jones

From far away and high up spied the hawk a certain sight

While diving through the sky he clenched his talons tight

Down below him sat a rabbit who had not the slightest clue

He'd never made the habit of looking up toward the blue

So the dangerous game was on, and the drums began to beat

For the numbers had been drawn, and soon the two would meet ...

From across the only water spied the crocodile a sight

The day was growing hotter, and the sun was very bright

Standing on the muddy bank a tired zebra, come to drink

And when the monster sank, well, the zebra must have blinked

So the dangerous game was on, and the drums began to beat

For the numbers had been drawn, and soon the two would meet ...

From deep below the dark spied the gray and white a sight

Circled closer in the shark, it would hardly be a fight

The rolling ocean swayed, and the seal was on his back

On the rocks the others played, not a thought of an attack

So the dangerous game was on, and the drums began to beat

For the numbers had been drawn, and soon the two would meet ...

From the tall and dancing grass moved the lion toward a sight

The golden cat was very fast, his footsteps very light

The gazelles were all around, it was such a lovely day

But she was looking down when the lion came her way

So the dangerous game was on, and the drums began to beat

For the numbers had been drawn, and soon the two would meet ...

But though the hunters came to dine, such confidence and zeal

The zebra, rabbit, and gazelle are fine, not a scratch upon the seal

And the hawk and giant lion and the shark and crocodile

Will have to keep on tryin' for at least a little while

Because often may it go your way, they’ll cheer and blow a kiss

But sometimes it’s another’s day ... because sometimes you just miss
