I’m A Dragon! I’m A Lion! I’m Love! I’m Fire!

by Duncan Jones

Love was a dragon, and he smashed through trees

“He’s got no wings here beneath the leaves!

Claws dig deep, not built for speed!

Let him tire in the forest, let him have the lead!”

Rather clever move by the knights this time -

They say sooner or later comes the end of the line

So he tired, turned, his turn to burn

But the light of the night saw a lesson learned

And they all know now once lived a liar

’Twas the one who said, “Fight fire with fire!”

So “Come, come lads!” and they circled in

Though to this day they won’t hunt again

The archers lit, and the lances raised

Hate raged in their eyes, and the torches blazed

But they learned that night can’t touch the wild

The king yelled, “Charge!” and the dragon smiled

Now it’s a story that the kingdom knows

It was hot that night when they all just froze

Turn and run? Yes turn and run!

You saw what happened tell everyone!

Say “No way! No! Not like that!

No you’re not gonna like when I push back!”

They should’ve known, there was music ringin’

They should’ve known, because the birds were singin’

And when the music plays we’re never tired

I’m a dragon! I’m a lion! I’m love! I’m fire

Love was a lion, and he said few words

He would pass his days with the bees and birds

“Never really cared for the crown or the ring

No, not my thing, got songs to sing!”

The biggest around though, the beast was great

I guess happy and light let’s you hold more weight

In time spread word, and the word brought takers

And the takers brought guns, and the money, and the fakers

So the trackers tracked, all wanted a piece

Said, “He’s got no use for that golden fleece!”

To think him tame though was quite unwise

He had the wild in his eyes and a hunter’s surprise

They all soon learned, now want no more

When the rifles aimed the lion laughed and roared

All so obsessed with the King they’d seen

Not one of them had thought to watch out for the Queen

Now it’s a story the savanna knows

It was hot that day when they all just froze

Turn and run? Yes turn and run!

You saw what happened tell everyone!

Say “No way! No! Not like that!

No you’re not gonna like when I push back!”

They should’ve known, there was music ringin’

They should’ve known, because the birds were singin’

And when the music plays we’re never tired

I’m a dragon! I’m a lion! I’m love! I’m fire!

Love was a gorilla, ropes on his hands

Everyone in the jungle said, “His good luck bands!”

Now he’s a legend, this is the tale

About the one with the smile and the strength of a whale

He was big as the mountain, black and gray

But not one for a fight, no, he played all day

The poachers came though, and Love bought time

And he made a big scene, let the others climb

And they say every mountain has its slippery slopes

When he reached for a vine he was snared by ropes

Tied to the trees, and the ropes were thick

And they pulled right back, and they tightened quick

And the poachers laughed, and they grabbed their guns

But they learned that day that they should’ve all run

His friends in the leaves say he did it with ease …

All the laughing stopped when Love snapped the trees

Now it’s a story that the jungle knows

It was hot in the mist when they all just froze

Turn and run? Yes turn and run!

You saw what happened tell everyone!

Say “No way! No! Not like that!

No you’re not gonna like when I push back!”

They should’ve known, there was music ringin’

They should’ve known, because the birds were singin’

And when the music plays we’re never tired

I’m a dragon! I’m a lion! I’m love! I’m fire!

Love was a fox, so fast and bright

Was the color of the sun, but she lived for the night

Over moonlit dunes soon the trappers came

So she let ’em stay close, let ’em play their game

And they danced in the cool while the moonlight glistened

And the wind told secrets to the ones who listen

For the name of the game in the wild is respect

From the biggest of the beasts to the smallest insect

And it happened slow, but the sands were shifting

Oh there’s so much to know about the ocean drifting

When the morning came, well, their dance grew hotter

And then all of a sudden the game’s all about water

And the hot wind blew under cloudless skies

And the hot sand flew, and they shielded their eyes

And they learned in the desert that you fear the dawn

And when they all looked up the clever girl was gone

Now it’s a story that the desert knows

It was hot that morning when they all just froze

Turn and run? Yes turn and run!

You saw what happened tell everyone!

Say “No way! No! Not like that!

No you’re not gonna like when I push back!”

They should’ve known, there was music ringin’

They should’ve known, because the birds were singin’

And when the music plays we’re never tired
