Little Blue Subaru

by Duncan Jones

While driving on a sunny day

Toward the towering mountain range

The road climbed ever higher

And the weather began to change

But I kept my pace, and I held my place

On the highway moving fast

My four by four was strolling

And man I flew right past

Right past, right past

And man I flew right past!

Then the clouds rolled in and darkened

And the mountain shadows grew

And at that time appeared right behind me

A little blue Subaru

I thought, "Good luck, buddy I've got a truck

And you'll not keep up with me"

But the little blue Subaru flashed his lights

As if to say, "We'll see ..."

We'll see, we'll see

As if to say, "We'll see ..."

Soon the turns began to tighten

And the rain began to fall

And the traffic began lighten

And the big rigs started to stall

So the wipers slashed, and my giant tires splashed

And the lanes became hard to find

But the little blue Subaru didn't miss a beat

The whole time right behind

Behind, behind

The whole time right behind

Then it began to sleet and ice

I let my V8 roar

Determined that I'd not play nice

My pedal hit the floor

And I knew shouldn't care, but I thought it wasn't fair

Just a part of me had to win

But the little blue Subaru stayed on my tail

No, I coudn't get rid of him

Of him, of him

I couldn't get rid of him

Then the road turned white, it was snowing more

And I had to let up a bit

For a wagon to pass my four by four

Would make me throw a fit

He paid under thirty grand, and I didn't understand

How this guy was still hanging on

Just a little blue Subaru, not a Range Rover

Tacoma, or Rubicon

Just a little blue Subaru, not a Range Rover

Tacoma, or Rubicon

Finally we were passing no one else

Were the only lights in sight

Hesitating now, I tamed myself

In the cold, dark, winter night

So I signaled, slowed, on the iced mountain road

Grew up, and swallowed my pride

And the little blue Subaru, calm as ever

Passed right along my side

My side, my side

Passed right along my side

For a moment we were even

Then the Subaru took the lead

And as if to simply rub it in

She was quite polite, indeed

Passing by without a beep, because her family was asleep

But she waved with words, "Thank you!"

Now I'm a great V8 with a cool tailgate behind

A little blue Subaru

I'm a great V8 with a cool tailgate behind

A little blue Subaru
