Out In The Waves

by Duncan Jones

Out in the waves a young seal plays

And then one day shadows pass by

His mom looks at him and says, “Baby go SWIM!

You must swim like you can fly!”

The surface comes close, and from then on he knows

Why out on the rocks they all say

“Icy wind in my face never felt like a friend

Before, but it does today!”

Out in the sun a young gazelle plays

And then one day the grass has eyes

Her dad looks at her and says, “Baby go RUN!

You must run like you can fly!”

The herd comes close, and from then on she knows

Why out on the plains they all say

“The sun on my back never felt like a friend

Before, but it does today!”

Under the sky a young elephant plays

Then for long the rains never come

The old bull looks at him, “We always GO ON!

You must be the strongest one!”

The river comes close, and from then on he knows

Why out on the banks they all say

“The mud in the water never tasted so good

Before, but it does today!”

Out in the fields a young rabbit plays

And then one night silent wings come

Her mom looks at her and says, “Baby go FAST!

Go now! And don’t ever give up!”

The forest comes close, and from then on she knows

Why down underground they all say

“Living down here never seemed like a dream

Before, but it does today!”

Out in the world the wild ones play

And then one day work takes the fun

But the night winds call to the wild ones ALL

“Come now! For it’s time to go run!”

The fun comes close, and from then on they know

Why out in the world they all say

“The thrill of the wild makes one feel like a child

Before, and still does today!”
